Raleigh, N.C. — Scattered showers and thunderstorms were moving into central and eastern North Carolina Saturday afternoon as a front continues to linger along the state's coast.

 

"We could see showers and storms pop up anytime today," WRAL meteorologist Mike Moss said. "We don't expect any severe weather, but the chance for rain will go up gradually during the late morning and throughout the afternoon."

 

Cloud cover will help subdue high temperatures, as highs in the Triangle will likely top out near 80 degrees. Normal highs for the third week of June are near 90.

 

Thanks to the clouds, it may be tough to see the biggest and brightest full moon of the year Saturday night. For those that do see breaks in the clouds, the "super moon" will come within 220,000 miles of Earth and turn full around 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

 

Partly cloudy skies will allow Sunday's highs climb back into the mid-80s, and by early next week 90-degree temperatures will return for a long stay, Moss said.

 

"We'll see a summer-like pattern begin Monday and Tuesday, where temperatures will get into the low 90s each day and we'll have the predictable pattern that includes scattered afternoon thunderstorms," he said.

Overnight lows will inch up as well, staying in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees for much of the next week.
